The Raving Gamer
Happy Details
The Raving Gamer isn't your typical family restaurant. Sure, they've got incredible food, and they provide opportunities for families to unwind and connect in a warm, comfortable, kid friendly atmosphere, but they also happen to have more games then you could ever imagine!
We love this place, and better yet, our kids love this place (and they range in age from one and a half to nine). In our eyes, that makes Raving Game is a winner, and keeps us coming back for more. So where to start?

Food of course! Chef Ken is passionate about families unplugging and connecting over a board game and a delicious, locally sourced meal. His menu has something for everyone. The fryers are gluten friendly, the entire menu is nut free, and the flavours are interesting and a little unexpected. Chef Ken has an in-house smoker, and he makes magic with this thing. We highly suggest you try the margarita pizza with handmade crust and smoked tomatoes, the juicy Water Buffalo burger (locally sourced from Abbotsford) with double smoked bacon, or the smoked tomato soup... basically, try pretty much anything smoked. Next visit we’re trying the smoked olives.
Just looking for a drink and a snack? They’ve got a full bar stocked with local beer, wine and spirits and just recently started offering a happy hour with food and drink specials. For snacks we highly recommend the 1,2, or 3lb hand cut fries with “butta-shoyu” sauce and Japanese seasoning-it is oh so good. The 3 lbs of fries is quite impressive. The kid's eyes just about popped outta their heads when the mountain of fries arrived at the table. Or in need of a sweet treat? Their freshly baked chocolate chip cookies are kid approved.

The kids menu is great with healthy options like the "I'm not hungry" grilled chicken breast. We think the super cute names for each entree make them irresistible, but it could just be that they're pretty darn good. The kids “I don’t care” Mac &Cheese is most definitely baby/kid approved, and is made with real cheese sauce. Mom and Dad will have to fight to get a taste (seriously), and the “I don’t know” grilled cheese is ooey-gooey perfection. We may have stolen a bite from C to dip in our smoked tomato soup. (FYI: kid’s fries don’t come with the spicy seasoning unless requested, but our kids love it, so consider giving it a try!).
Not only is this a great family restaurant, but it's also a family business. Chef Ken's wife Kathy is an owner, manager, server, and host, and was a preschool teacher for 25 years, only leaving to pursue her family's dream of opening the Raving Gamer. Kathy has a soft spot for the little ones and welcomes them with open arms. She’s spared no detail to make families comfortable. She’s even customized two high chairs to fit exactly at table height so your baby can be part of the fun. There’s adjustable booster seats to grow with baby, special toys and blocks for little ones to enjoy (sanitized after every use for the next set of grubby hands), and of course a change table.
It seems the game choices are endless, yet the staff knows each game inside-out and are happy to walk you through the rules so you and family don't have to waste precious time figuring out how to play. If you don't know what game to choose the host will happily make some recommendations based on your group. We really appreciated this as too many choices can lead to arguments!
If you're planning on going for a visit feel free to make a reservation, even if you're a small group because they do get busy and like to make sure they can give every table personalized service. If you have an extra large group, or you're looking for a place to hold a party there's one family style long table in the main area that can be reserved free of charge, or a private room that can be rented by the hour. This room has an amazing custom built gaming table with pieces that can be removed to work with the game you're playing. It has cup holders, snack holders, places for cards and game pieces, felt top, table top... the list goes on. Give them a call for all the details. (info below)
We can't say enough about this incredible family friendly restaurant, and highly recommend you give it a try. We're pretty confident you'll be hooked. Have you already been? We'd love to hear about your experience! What game did you play? What food did you eat?
